The Dilli Maya Memorial Breast Cancer Foundation was founded with the sole purpose of assisting breast cancer patients, particularly those who face financial challenges, in their battle against the illness. The foundation operates under three main principles:
1. Raising Awareness
Recognizing the limited awareness about breast cancer among Nepalese women, the foundation aims to address this issue by conducting various awareness programs. These initiatives aim to educate every woman about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, as well as the importance of self-examination. By detecting the disease at its early stages, lives can be saved.
2. Hosting Training Workshops
Given the scarcity of trained professionals capable of clinically diagnosing breast cancer, the foundation will arrange multiple training programs for healthcare workers and volunteers. This is especially crucial for those working in rural areas where advanced imaging methods such as ultrasound and mammography are unavailable.
3. Establishing an Affordable Hospital
The foundation's vision includes the creation of a hospital that is accessible to all. Breast cancer treatment, involving surgeries, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and thermal therapy, comes at a high cost, often making it difficult for individuals to complete their treatment regimens. Despite the Nepalese government's provision of 1 lakh rupees, financial constraints remain. Therefore, the foundation intends to establish a hospital that offers treatment at a cost lower than that of government hospitals. This hospital will not only provide medical treatment to patients but also ensure complimentary meals and accommodations for those caring for the patients.
